What key is the Wessex PB300 Piccolo Trombone in?
The PB300 is pitched in high Bb, the same pitch as a Bb piccolo trumpet. Its higher register gives it a bright, distinctive sound quite unlike a conventional tenor or bass trombone.
Can a trumpet player play the PB300?
Yes. In fact, trumpet players are particularly well suited to the PB300 because it uses a trumpet mouthpiece and operates in a familiar register. The big difference, of course, is that notes are selected using a trombone slide rather than trumpet valves – which can make learning it great fun.
